We will be liquidating at public auction, including live and online the remaining assets of Garry and Diana Thomas. Garry was a master craftsman who built precision wood cabinets, gun stocks, tiny towns, counters, trim and numerous other wood crafts. Garry refinished tables and dressers, fixed broken furniture and had original designs for various other wood products like bar stools. Alongside his remaining wood pieces, jigs, and furniture we will be liquidating his remaining wood working tools, wrenches, sanders, saws, torches, compressors, presses and vehicles and lawn mower. Garry and Diana took care and maintained their family home and business with great care and pride. Gary could make things last because he always wanted what he had. We will start the auction at 10am no matter the weather on February 22nd, 2025. We will auction personal property until noon where we will start the simulcast portion and invite the internet for the selling of the home, business, vehicles and lawn mower. We will finish the auction back on personal property and home furnishings.
- Owners/Sellers: Garry & Diana Thomas
- Parcel 1: This Century plus home of Garry and Diana Thomas has a perfect layout in my opinion. Built in 1911 they put some thought into this dwelling. Awesome boiler activated register heat under each window that gives it that 20th century feel, yet still very efficient and effective. All original wood working on the inside, completely redone in 2011. Original windows, yet storm frames and glass added to the outside so not to disrupt the beauty of the home. Cedar lined closets to keep your hanging clothes fresh. Wood floors almost completely squeak free. Two bedrooms upstairs complete with Jack & Jill bathroom. Down the wooden staircase to a roomy family room adjacent to family dining with your table of 6 chairs. Sit at the bar top and gaze into the kitchen with priceless cabinets and cupboards. Countertops galore. Very large bathroom with tub/shower combo and cabinets galore, into laundry room all on top of ceramic easy to clean tile. Every room in this home is designed to complete like tasks in. Truly have to see this home to believe it. Asphalt shingles, vinyl siding and city of Garden Grove utilities. Taxes of this home and large .74 acre lot are just over $1500/yr., 1 car garage 432 ft.
Legal Description: Very large Lot 3, Block 3 (EXCEPT the South 125 feet thereof); the West 16 feet of the South 312.5 feet (EXCEPT the South 125 feet thereof) and the West 12 feet of the North 100 feet of Lot 2, Block 3, all in Original Town of Garden Grove, Decatur County, Iowa. The South 125 feet of Lot 3 and the South 125 feet of West 16 feet of Lot 2, Block 3, Original Town of Garden Grove, Decatur County, Iowa.
Parcel 2: This commercial property is comprised of 3 lots on main street Garden Grove. Former filling station and mechanic garage, the liability of this property was held and handled by theh late Garry & Diana. When this property transfers it will be free and clear. Terra con performed site report back in 2011 and the results sell with this property. These combined compressed lots are just over half an acre and are the complete real deal. The station portion of this property was converted into a studio apartment which still connects to the shop and 1 car garage. We will be selling all contents of this building at public auction before and after this property sells until satisfactory. Aside from elbow grease and fresh ideas the hard work here is done. Would be a great piece of Iowa history across from the newly remodeled and opened restaurant, The Stag, and just south of the old McClung house.
